Q: What do I need to listen to O&A over the internet?

The radio show is commonly rebroadcast over live365.com and shoutcast.com, but shoutcast is the preferred method of connection, since it's clearer and can be played through winamp.

To listen to the show via shoutcast, you'll need a computer, an internet connection and winamp. Assuming you have the first two requirements, since you're here, you'll need to download the latest version of winamp. The program can be downloaded here.

Q: Ok, I got Winamp, how do I connect?

Once you've downloaded and installed winamp, you're ready to connect to the show.

Run Winamp.

Hit Ctrl-L and type the address of the stream in the box. A list of streams can be found here.

Press Play.

And your stream should be up and running!

Q: What streams are available?

Here is a list of current streams:

Chuck Radio - 166.90.148.108:7668
The original major stream hosted by Chuck217. Give him mad props on the board.

Red Camaro Radio - 166.90.148.111:14332
Redstripe's foray into the world of serving your daily fix

Rotty Radio - I do not have this link at this time
rottyiam keeps the latest updates at opieanthony.org

Q: I can connect to the stream, but how can I stop it from pausing so often?

Increase your buffer size.

Right click in winamp and select Options -> Preferences.

Select Input on the left side, "Nullsoft MPEG audio decoder plug-in v2.30 (x86)" on the right side and click Configure

Set the Streaming Data Buffer to 100 KB and slide both Streaming Prebuffer sliders to 100%

Click OK on the "MPEG audio decoder settings" window and click Close on the "Winamp Preferences" window. Then click play and your skipping problems should be fixed.

Q: How can I broadcast my own stream?

In the words of Chuckradio's own Chuck:

1. Go to http://www.shoutcast.com
2. Click on Download Shoutcast
3. Click on "Be A DJ" Link
4. Download Winamp! (latest version) some of thins I'm copying from the webpage for the file names
5. Download the SHOUTcast DSP Broadcasting Tools
6. You're also gonna need the Netshow encoding tools to encode to mp3 -- some people need it -- others dont -- I needed it -- It's about a 4 meg download --

All the files up to this point are located under that "Be A Listener" Link

7. Download Miscellaneous SHOUTcast Broadcasting Tools under this topic your gonna need the Line Rec plugin

Linerec takes input from your mic or linein jack and "plays" it through Winamp -- although you dont hear it like mp3's

That's all the software you need

Follow the instructs to install it all

Now you should be ready to fiire up Winamp -- after launching Winamp there should be this new funky looking icon in your systray (by the clock) click on that and it loads up the Shoutcast part of winamp -- Two Edit buttons at the top -- those need to be changed

the first has the sample rates that you will be broadcasting at -- I recommend 16kbps and 11,00hz mono -- it only uses 1k on the upload -- I send using a 28.8 modem with very little complaints

the other box has the info for where you are sending the stream to -- this is where you need to have a live365.com account

After you sign up for live365 -- change your broadcast type to LIVE and they will assign you an IP and port number

the IP and port go in these fields ... the server PASSWORD is your LIVE365.com password -- remember that

Run the output of your radio into the line in of your soundcard (you will need a quarter inch to quarter inch cable or a quarter inch to RCA stereo cable to do this (less then 5 bux at Radio Shack)

hit the Connect Stream button in Shoutcast .. and hit Ctrl L in winamp and type " linerec:// " (assuming you installed linerec correctly up above)

Hit the play button

everything coming into the line in on your soundcard SHOULD be going out on the stream ... if it's not -- check the recording properties of your sound card and turn on the line ni and turn off the mic (during my broadcasts I reverse it during the commercials and talk to the audience)

Q: How can I get the latest Syndication Underground information?

Oh, we could tell you, but then we'd have to kill you. But since we've already told you everything else, we might as well tell you this too. There are two major sources of SU information.

The first is the Syndication Underground forum on opieanthony.com

The second is the chat room courtesy of rotty. There are three ways to connect:
